2016 Warda Race – Warda, Texas Race #7

My Cat2 40-44 mountain bike race video from the 2016 Warda Race held at Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda, Texas.

A little different approach in this video. The footage itself didn’t lend to much as far as excitement or storytelling so I decided to try some commentary. Let me know what you think of that format!

After back to back wins, and the Coldspring race cancellation due to flooding, I had one option and one option only. I had to win this race in order to knock Marc out of the #1 spot. Anything less than a win and it wouldn’t make any difference as I was already locked into 2nd place for the state championship.

As was a common refrain for this year, another dose of heavy rainfall meant the course had to be adjusted. More singletrack was removed and the course was considerably shortened.

Unlike Dallas, the changed course did not play well to my strengths as much of the course was straight and flat without any technical features. Powerful strong fitness types would have the upper hand today, and that wasn’t me. I was going to have to pull out all the stops to do well in this race.

After it was all said and done, I battled for a 3rd place finish, never even coming close to contesting the win or even directly battling Marc. Marc clenched the State Championship and I was relegated to 2nd place.

Next year will be on to Cat 1!
